Looks like it's time for a fresh install. AVG finds nothing wrong, but I can't finish a scan with Ad-Aware, that program gives me a dll error when I open it, and can't even install Spybot Search & Destroy.

Woo!

At least we have the laptop...

edit: oh, I forgot to mention, it took two hours to struggle through slow folder changes and unresponsiveness to back up my profiles for Firefox and Thunderbird, plus the FFXI User folder...

I think I'm ok with doing a fresh install of Windows, and we've got all the software I might need. I only need help when it comes to hardware. :)

Going to format it tomorrow evening while we're playing FFXI, then depending on time even start the install tomorrow too. I probably won't start installing anything other than the OS until Saturday.

If I still have the problem after the re-install, I assume that means something is majorly fucked up?

One thing I think you should do is a full format. If it is a virus you want to make sure you kill it good. Keep me posted. I will be at work until about 2pm Saturday after that I can help if there are any melt downs.

Yeah, was figuring a full format was worth the time. That's why I plan to start tomorrow evening, too.
